The 1998 team was loaded with talent as the stats reveal. Six offensive players and six defensive players went on to play Division 1 Football. Brady James went to LSU and made All-American, then went to the Dallas Cowboys, where he is project to start in 2005. Rodney Reed (Atlanta Falcons), Andrew Whitworth, Brian West, and Jason Ledoux played on the LSU National Champion Team. Two went on to play Division 1-AA. Several continued their college careers in baseball. The 1998 version of the WM Rebels outscored their opponents 625 to 96. That is an average of 42-6.

Defensively, WM gave up a total of 2007 yards at 134 yards per game. Bear in mind the starters rarely played a full game. The only games they were in start to finish was the first Byrd game which was played in a torrential rainstorm. WM won that game, 21-0. That is also the game Tramission Davis (New Orleans Saint) hurt his ankle and was lost until the finals. WM beat Byrd in the first round of the playoffs, 52-0. The other game was against Ruston in the finals. The starters only gave up 28 points all year: Ouachita 7, Barbe 7, and Ruston in the finals, 14. Another interesting note. 14 of the 28 were given up to Ruston's Jack Hunt (LSU and Miami Dolphins).

Offensively, WM Rushed for 3423 yards at 228 yards per game. Passing went for 2155 yards at 143 yards per game. That is 5578 total at 371 yards per game. Once again, the starters rarely played a whole game.

Bradie James and Marcus Turner were name State MVP on Defense and Offense. James had 130 tackles, 95 solo, 8 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 1 blocked punt, and 3 fumble recoveries.

Marcus Turner had 54 catches for 1300 yards and 16 receiving Td's.

WM finished the season #1 in the nation in 3 Polls, the Tony Poll, Rivals.com Poll and Dick Butkus/Reebok. They were ranked #8 in the USA Top 10.
